Is There Any Point to This(WIP)?

YotS

YotS

Work in progress of my latest drawing done in pointilism style. I need to increase the tonal contrast to make the elements pop. And there is also a bit of detail-work left before I round it up.

A Wild Turkey walks into a bar..

Haven’t really been up to snuff lately. Lots of scribbles that deserves no room on the internet. Luckily, from all of this emerged this proud Wild Turkey. I was initially initerested in the bird after seeing a documentary where a man raised a flock of these.

5 hours on cheap drawing paper, Derwent Graphic pencils.

Doom Bringer

Yet another DotA 2 portrait. Lucifer sketched in 30 minutes. I might step it a bit further and do a watercolor painting based on the sketch.

Frozen Sideburns

Ancient Apparition

Ancient Apparition

Another tribute to DotA 2. The coldest of all heroes – Ancient Apparition. Took me about 2,5 hours. I’m pretty happy with the results, but I overworked a bit towards the end.

Next up is a quick pencil portrait of Ambrose Burnside. I actually learned from this that the term ‘sideburns’ comes from this fellow. Salute!

Dazzle!

DazzleAgain a tribute to DotA 2. Quick(about 10 minutes) drawing of Dazzle the Shadow Priest. It’s a simple foundation drawing for a watercolor painting, so it is based more on shapes, rather than form and volume.  Watercolor version to come, hopefully tomorrow.

Clockwerk - DotA 2

Clockwerk – DotA 2

Being a big fan of DotA 2(especially its artwork/visual style) I decided to try my luck on a hero portrait. Clockwerk is one of my favorites visually, I guess that’s why I decided on him. The piece took me about 2,5 hours from inital drawing to completion. It was initally just meant as a simple doodle, so I skimped a bit on the drawing. This resulted in a few mistakes that I’m sure any DotA 2 lover would notice. I overdid it a bit towards the end. so it lost its fresh, loose impression. I’m pretty happy nonetheless.

Go With the Flow

It’s been a while since last time. For the last week and a half I’ve been experimenting/practicing watercolors. It’s a sensational medium, and the flow of the water is always as exciting. It’s very unpredictable, be it good or bad. I’m quite happy with some of my results, and I’m determined to keep on splashing and discover the ways of watercolor.

Expressive Apple

Expressive Apple

I’ve been experimenting a lot with a palette limited to 6 colors – 3 warm and 3 cool(Ultramarine Blue, Pthalo Blue, Cadmium Yellow Hue, Lemon Yellow Hue, Cadmium Red Hue and Alizarin Crimson). I use a lot of mixed neutrals to cover the painting, and also to mute already mixed colors. This apple was done in a very expressionistic manner with much use of mixed neutrals. It was primarily aimed as a study for moisture control and dry-on-wet application.

Banana

Banana

Not much to say here. A simple banana to practice moisture control, layering and using complementary colors for shading.

Tropical Frog

Tropical Frog

Some sort of rain forest/tropical frog. I liked it because the colors of its legs are the complementary to those of the body and vice versa(Orange and Blue). I always try to achieve looseness in my paintings, and this worked out pretty well.
